The Nationality Checking Service is for people who are applying to become British citizens.
Our fully trained staff will check your application to ensure it is completely and correctly filled in and all the required documents and fees are attached before the application is sent to the Home Office.
You will be able to keep all your important documents instead of sending them to the Home Office.
You are now able to apply for your UK passport at the same time as your citizenship application using our Passport Application Service.
How we help
During the appointment the Nationality Checking Service advisor will:
- check that your application form(s) have been completed correctly
- check that all required documents are present
- check that the correct fee has been submitted
- photocopy valuable documents such as passports, marriage and birth certificates
- certify the copies and return the originals to you
- send completed applications by secure post direct to the Home Office
Before you book with us
Please ensure you have completed your application form and that you have all the necessary documents supporting your application.
Please ensure that your application form is the most up-to-date version from the Home Office website. The Home Office will only accept the most recent version of the application form and there is not enough time during an appointment to complete a new form. Therefore, if your application form is out of date and you attend the appointment we will not be able to continue and you will need to re-book and pay another full fee.

Most applications fail because the applicant was not present in the United Kingdom at the beginning of the residential qualifying period.
The residential qualifying period is worked out from the date the application is received by the Nationality Checking Service Team, in other words the date you have booked your NCS appointment.
If your NCS appointment is on 20 January 2015 you would have to show that you were in the UK on 21 January 2010 (five years previously), if you are applying as a spouse of a British Citizen the date would be 21/01/2012 (three years previously).
You must make sure you meet this requirement before you make your application.
How to book an appointment
Call us on 01296 382604, 9.30am and 2.00pm, Tuesday to Friday, to make an appointment. When booking your appointment you will need to pay the appointment fee but not the application fee by credit or debit card.
All fees are non-refundable.
If you need to rearrange your appointment, you can do this up to 5 working days before your appointment date and time. If you rearrange your appointment with less than 5 working days’ notice, you will have to pay another full fee when you re-book. Please note you can only move your appointment up to three times.
Please ensure you attend on time, allowing enough time for parking and traffic delays, otherwise you may not be seen and will lose your fee.
The Home Office fees for nationality applications do not include fees charged by Buckinghamshire County Council for the use of the Nationality Checking Service
The service is offered at three registration offices: Buckinghamshire Register Office in Aylesbury, Beaconsfield Old Town Registration Office and High Wycombe Library Registration Office.
Appointments at Short Notice
We are, where possible, able to see you at short notice. This means that you may be able to book an appointment within two days of contacting us. If you are interested in this service please let us know when you call to book your appointment. (There is an increased charge for this service, please see our Fees page for details.)
Please note, if you see us at short notice, this does not mean that your application will be handled any more quickly by the Home Office.
